President

Julie Eatley
Picture
Born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, Julie comes from a very musical family and culture (Geaux Cajuns!). Her father played Tuba and 3 of her sisters played instruments in high school. Following their lead she played Oboe in high school and has been playing Flute and Piccolo off and on for 26 years.

Julie met her husband, Gordon, her freshman year of college and they were married in 2000. He joined the Navy just before they married and Julie spent the next 9 years following him to duty stations around the world. During that time she had 2 children, Madelyn and Kimberly. Who are also
following in her musical footsteps. Madelyn currently plays Viola for her high school Orchestra and Kimberly is a percussionist in her middle school band.

Julie has been involved in music as much as she could be over the years. She was a flute teacher and substitute for a middle/high school band program and at their next duty station Julie volunteered with their church choir and directed the youth choir.

In the middle of 2010, her husband left the Navy and they settled in Amarillo. Soon after they moved here Julie was looking for a place to use her musical talents again. First, she volunteered with a local high school band, and in late 2011, found the Amarillo Wind Ensemble. Before becoming our President in 2016, Julie was formerly our Recruitment and Retention Coordinator and
Director of Public Relations.

Julie went back to college in 2014 and will be Graduating Summa Cum Laude from WTAMU in December 2017 (We are very proud of her)!  Julie is also involved with Amarillo's Got Music as their COO, and is President of the Amarillo High Orchestra Parents Association. In her down time, if she can peel herself away from her homework, likes to sew, crochet, do home improvement projects and help her daughters with their music.

Julie hopes to use her position as President to help students and community members come together and share their love of Music!

Vice President/ Personnel Manager

Wayne Wiley

Wayne would like to say that he has studied and graduated with highest honors from the finest musical institutions this great nation has to offer and that he's just about the best tuba player that can be found anywhere in the land...but quite frankly, he's "not that big of a liar."  He is, however, the comic relief and consistently smiling face of the Amarillo Wind Ensemble!

Wayne played tuba in Jr. High and High School and one year in college before leaving to start work.  Not having a horn or a place to play, he went for 13 years without his music until the opportunity presented itself to perform with the San Jacinto Baptist Church (now known as “The Church at Quail Creek”).  Remaining with the group for the last 20+ years, he has also become active in a variety of other musical venues to include  local Tuba Christmas events,  “The Promised Land Band”, a few other trios and quartets which he has organized and the Amarillo Wind Ensemble. The Lord continues to bless Wayne richly as he uses his talents (or lack of, as he says) not only in church, but in the other ventures he has participated with.

Married to Pam since August 1980 and a native of Amarillo since birth, Wayne has never left.  He hears people say that Amarillo doesn’t have as much to offer as larger cities, but that's OK with him. "This is where my life is centered... and where I call home."   Employed by a local LTL freight company, he is a truck driver by trade. Thankful for no overnight assignments, Wayne enjoys staying home each evening and being able to pursue the pleasures of making music with his like-minded friends.

His primary goal as a non-professional musician is to be an example to the kids who are coming out of the school system who loved band but no longer have a place to play and think their joys of playing may have ended. He wants to show them that their talents need not die, all they need to do is commit themselves to it.

Recruitment & Retention Coordinator

 Glenn Tyler

Glenn graduated from Fair Park High School Shreveport, LA. just after dirt was invented. He played saxophone since Grammar School (8th grade), as it was first known. He went to Louisiana Tech Ruston, LA on a Bassoon Scholarship (We won't hold that against him!).

Glenn did Hurricane Reconnaissance in the USAF from 1968 to 1973, and then worked for the National Weather Service in Amarillo from 1973 to 1978. Glenn currently works for the VA Hospital in Engineering as the Construction Safety Officer.

Glenn has been with the Amarillo Wind Ensemble since 1993 and he says he can't think of a better place to be or better fellow musicians to be among.

Secretary

Picture
Phyllis Leetsch

Having grown up in an Air Force family, Phyllis has traveled throughout the United States as well as Puerto Rico.  She began playing flute and piccolo in the 6th grade and continues pursuing her love of music with the Amarillo Wind Ensemble.

Serving as the music minister at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, she assists the youth choir and plays flute for Sunday Mass.  Phyllis graduated Cooper High School in Abilene and then continued her education at McMurray college, studying Music Education and Physical Education.  She currently works for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier and has two sons and two wonderful grand daughters!
